THE 2016/17 NATIONAL BUDGET IS RESPONDING TO FOOD CRISIS-CISANET

Woman carries relief maizeThe 2016/2017 agriculture budget is probably the most unique budget in the past 10 years, in its design and also priorities, writes CISANET National Director Tamani Nkhono-Mvula.

We have seen in this budget a reduction in allocation to the ‘sacred’ Farm Input Subsidy Program (FISP) as a percentage of the whole agriculture budget by about 50% from MK60 billion in the 2015/2016 budget to MK31 billion.
